The holidays have arrived! As we pull out our old advent calendars or look to buy a new one in the store, consider shaking things up a bit. Sure my kids like getting a little piece of candy in their advent calendar, but this year we’re doing something a little different. I actually started this last year with my kids and didn’t get a chance to share it with all of you!
I love books. I love reading. I love books stores. And I LOVE USED book stores even more. I decided to take a trip to the local used book store to see if I could find 25 holiday or winter-themed books. I was in luck! I found exactly 25! The books cost me anywhere between 10 cents and 1 dollar per book. I think I walked out of there spending less than $10! Not bad for 25 days worth of entertainment!
So, here’s the idea. Wrap up each book individually in Christmas paper. Throw ’em in a basket. Each night, the kids get to pick out one book from the basket. If you have more than one kid, you’ll have to take turns with this. After picking out a book, the child gets to unwrap it. And that’s the book you guys get to read that night! It’s a great way to encourage reading, spend time together as a family and celebrate the magic of Christmas every day!
